 Costera 250 Baja Sur

Costera 250 Baja Sur

What a race day for the Costera 250 run on the 29th of August 2009. A regular summer day in La Paz and in Cd Constitucion until 17:00 hr 5:00 the skies opened up and dumped rain. It almost seems it was the foreshadowing of the days to come with hurricane Jimena drenching the southern Baja. The considered flat and fast race course from Cd. Constitution to La Paz turned into a mud-track and all the challenges these conditions throw at the race pilots. The actual route did not change much except for the start – the start got delayed by 2 hours based on the rain – but the ground conditions were completely unpredictable. A fair share of race teams had to call it quits on the track. Some vehicles were off the track with a variety of problems. Going too fast for the conditions, unable to negotiate the road, technical problems would be a fair summary for the DNF’s in that race.

Personal comment by the editor: It is far fetched to talk in some classes about a “tough competition and glorious victory”. The olympic spirit of finishing the race has to be given due credit to any racer yet competition as such could not really be seen in particular classes. Competing was and is – racer against racer dicing it out in their class, the tighter, the better! Race results of the Costera 250 Off-Road desert-mud race can be found at Puro Off-Road
